As much as we all love Dickerson sometimes we forget how much of a fumbler he was and that it probably cost the Rams several games in those 1983-'86 seasons. Not as bad as Wendell Tyler (one fumble per 23 touches as a Ram) but still... ED fumbled 51 times as a Ram (once every 32.3 touches). Faulk, Jackson, Gurley, etc. were nowhere near that.by LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
No sweeping judgements here but just saying it's interesting to see. Goff since the start of 2019: vs. San Francisco 0-4 record 78/139 (56.1%) 797 yards (5.8 YPA) 4 TDs, 4 INTs 70.3 QB Rating vs. all others 16-7 record 587/890 (66.0%) 6,862 yards (7.7 YPA) 34 TDs/22 INT 91.6 QB Rating And just this year it's an even bigger divide: 62.3 vs. 98.2 QBR.by LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
This is considered by many analytics people as one of the best predictive measures of what teams are and how far they might go. It is simply the difference between your offense's passer rating and what your defense is allowing. Among the NFC through week 12: New Orleans +20.4 Green Bay +19.2 Seattle +14.6 Rams +13.8 Minnesota +6.7 Arizona +5.8 Tampa +0.4 San Francisco -0.2 Washingby LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
I really think the Rams and Seattle are on a collision course for that week 16 game in Seattle. I think Seattle goes in at 11-3 and Rams at 10-4 and the division on the line. Of course, big week 17 games then loom with SEA@SF and ARZ@LAR. But I played out the projections on FiveThirtyEight.com and if Seattle beats the Rams then week 17 is irrelevant (for the West) where as if the Rams beat Seattlby LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
Agreed.. $49.7M cap hit if released. $22.2M hit if traded. No chance. No how. No way. Especially in a year when the salary cap likely goes down. And I wouldn't be advocating for it if the numbers were much smaller, either...by LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
I think INT percentage is a somewhat better gauge (like YPA vs. passing yards). Goff is 22nd out of 32 (2.5%) which is a bit better than he was in 2019 (2.6%) but still trailing 2017 (1.5%) and 2018 (2.1%). We'll see where he ends up at year end. He was 2.2% entering yesterday. By the way among the 8 QBs you listed 5 (Wentz, Cousins, Lock, Wilson and Newton) have a noticeably worse INT peby LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
The thing some have brought up that SF had two weeks for this game and the Rams 6 days is fair. They STILL should have won. But....fair point worth mentioning... I guess part of what I was trying to point out above is that when Goff was at the top of his game (2017-2018) he STILL had bad games 20% of the time. I would guess that is the case for pretty much all good QBs. In 2019 and 2020 it'sby LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
There is some knee-jerk reaction in all of us. We're human. And it WAS the 49ers. We all want those games a little bit more than most others... and Goff has had 2 of his 3 worst games (and I would say his only 3 bad games) of the year now vs. SF. And yesterday was arguably his worst of the year and one of his 3-4 worst under McVay. But you're right. He very well might come back and play veryby LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
...going out of bounds. Now some of those could be borderline penalties on the defender. But, regardless, I'd like him to be a bit more cautious when he crosses the LOS. Remembering Sam Bradford @CAR in 2013.by LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
The team needs him and, as a team leader, part of his job is to protect himself. That run is a great example of where a QB can not only turn the ball over but get hurt. In fact there have been a decent number of times this year where he's scrambled for yardage and been close to taking contact (usually heading out of bounds) I don't want him to take. I know he's trying to make a play, etc. but heby LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
I think the one that might bother me the most is the fumble on the scramble. You're an NFL QB and you are NOT Lamar Jackson, Kyler Murray, etc. Be responsible to your team by protecting yourself and the ball. Get down. Slide. Whatever that...was...he was doing was, well, lazy (lacking focus and judgement).by LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
I say lazy mainly as as in unfocused and careless. I think all 3 of his turnovers qualify as that.by LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
We can probably quibble with a few plays calls. But even if you're only averaging 2.5 YPA (which is what the Rams averaged without the Akers' 61-yard run) you cannot just stop running entirely. If Goff takes a sack vs. tossing an ugly pick-6 and slides vs. awkwardly fumbling we're not talking about the play calling much because the Rams would have won by 7-10 points. I would have liked to seeby LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
I'm as pissed as anyone for his seemingly lazy effort Sunday. He cost them the game, pure and simple. But just wanted to point this out. Rams will need something similar to regain confidence in him. Goff vs. Arizona in 2018-2019 (4 games): 104/144 (72.2%) 1,313 yards (9.1 YPA) 7 TDs/1 INT 113.6 QB Rating Rams outscored ARZ 130-40 in those 4 games. Let's get to 8-4.by LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
I'm a Goff fan and still have belief in him. But Sunday, to me, was 100% on him. It was I would call it a lazy effort. All three turnovers were simply lazy, dumb plays. No way around it. Now can he rebound? Sure. And they need him too. He IS having a better season than 2019. But not as good as 2018 or 2017.by LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
It would be great to find a diamond off the scrap heap and I dont blame them for taking a look. But I am expecting nothing to come from it. He did literally nothing in New England in 3.5 years.by LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
I was 8 years old at the time. Only a couple years in as a Rams fan. My family was otherwise not into football at all. But we were an Italian family and when they heard the coach's name was Malavasi and the quarterback was a kid named Ferragamo they were ALL IN. True story.by LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
It is not a matter of value to the Rams. And I like Floyd. I think it is a matter of economics. The Rams are top heavy as it is salary wise and cannot make it more so. The Rams valued Corey Littleton too. With Williams MAYBE they can make that work since an extension is another season away. The 2021 cap is likely going down, not up. The season to try and add another big contract is simply notby LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
Jourdan and Rich H. commented on this in the 11 Personnel podcast this week. It really isnt reasonable to say that a young WR like that is underperforming or disappointing in a season without OTAs, a proper training camp and full preseason. He has contributed and shown good signs. He is being kept at bat by two high quality starters and a WR3 in Reynolds that is having the best season of his careby LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
I don't think there is any way the Rams keep both Williams and Floyd long-term. I would tender Williams at a first round level and work on a 2022 extension for him while letting Floyd go and netting the 2022 3rd round comp. pick for him. Target Edge in the 2nd round and look for a short-term veteran signing to go along with Lewis and Hollins. Brown has been a great story- veteran leader and coby LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
Yeah, we sometimes forget just how bad- truly bad- those 2007-'11 teams were overall. At one point late in 2014 Fisher was 20-24-1 as Rams' HC (.456) before losing the final 3 that season. And 24-30-1 midway through 2015 before things just started to go south. Like you said obviously a step up in steadying the franchise. Just couldn't take them further than that.by LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
Long way to go but right now my 2021 Draft hopes for the Rams top 3 picks (exact order TBD) would be Edge rusher, DE and DT. Entirely front seven defense.by LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
...since the start of 2017. Rams were 45-99 from 1990-'98. Rams were 15-65 (NFL's all-time worst 5-year W/L record...) from 2007-'11. Good to keep perspective.by LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
Just one data point here, but PFF ranks Peters 73rd out of 125 ranked CBs while Williams, Ramsey and Hill are 3rd, 17th and 54th, respectively. Peters was really valuable to Baltimore last year and not saying he is bad this year. But I think the Rams should be very pleased how things shook out.by LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
Pick your poison. Ridiculous that it was neither....by LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
I wonder if that's even a possibility. If this continues he is sure to get head coaching sniffs come January. Could they overpay/offer a raise to keep him at least a 2nd season? If not, perhaps Aubrey Pleasant might be ready for the role? He's built a nice track record and resume for himself with the Rams secondaries and has been with McVay now for 8 years.by LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
