My Dad escaped WWII because he had 2, (out of 3), brothers already serving. Unfortunately he did make Korea.
Dad's older brother served in the Navy in the South Pacific the same time my Dad was an Army infantryman in the Philippines. They found out after they got home that my uncle's ship (San Jacinto) provided cover for my Dad's unit on one of their beach landings.
Dad's youngest brother was also in Navy, but wasn't in combat. Oldest of the four brothers was in the reserves and stayed back with my grandparents on the farm in Long Beach.
