going to make this interesting. Well... to me anyway.
The movie, known perhaps to a scant few of you, is an all time classic. I had, (have), never seen it. Sunset Blvd. William Holden, Gloria Swanson. I'm a mere 20 minutes into this movie.... hence the 2 parts... I'll reply to this after I've seen it all... but probably tomorrow.
20 minutes in AND... this is one of the most fantastic movies I've ever ever seen. Chances you'll like it? Slim.
But there is something about this film that 'may' appeal to you... I have never, and doubt if I do ever, seen a better representation of Hollywood. Nah, not so much all the 'stories' and 'myths'... I mean physically. The wardrobes, the cars, the scenery, the appliances... the movie was made in 1950 and while 1950 is a bit too ancient even for me to remember well in those days things didn't change so rapidly.. they stuck around for a while... so when my memories kick in, mid to late 50's.... things were the same. What I'm saying is: I remember Hollywood as depicted in this movie.
Acting is superb. The 'narrative' voice taking you thru the opening scenes quite classic "Hollywood Golden Era".
I do not know for sure but it's just possible I have never seen ANY movie that reached off the silver screen and put a death lock on me the way this movie has. So how did I stop to pen this 1st of 2 review? I had to pee. - JamesJM
