I was having issues with lower back nerves sending painful signals to my knee. Bear with me. . . if it's your leg numbing, but no pain, it more than likely is not a vascular issue, although you might want to have your doc perform a circulation check just for the heck of it. Had my doctors seen that signal in my leg pain days. . . I would more than likely have two legs. . . instead of one and a half. But I was diagnosed with a back issue. . . no one bothered to check my circulation. Until it was too late.
So much for my self pity party. LOL
Anyway. Lifting had caused some problems in my back and like It said sent nerve signals to my knee resulting in some pain.
At the time I didn't know about this, but I took up yoga for different reasons. . .mainly about balance, since someone I met at the gym was a yoga instructor and she explained to me how it would help. She then became my instructor.
After about three months of faithfully practicing yoga four or five times a week, I became pain free. Better balanced. And more limber. I didn't know about this until I happened to run into my PT doctor at the hospital and I told her about it. She explained to me it was because, some positions strengthen the lower back. . . others stretch muscles to take the stress from the lower back. Which makes sense. .A lot of it is stretching the hamstrings.
For all intent and purposes, Yoga is nothing more than sophisticated stretching exercises coupled with coordinated breathing to feed oxygen into the muscles.
Maybe just give this a try? Go to YouTube and ring up beginners' yoga practices. They're very simple. . . no pain involved. . . And no, you don't have to be a pretzel. Breathing exercises prior to stretching is also helpful. . . not only on oxygen intake, but it puts you mentally in a different place in preparation for the different poses. It has something to do with massaging the vagus nerve which is the main conduit for all nerves in your body.
Actually, there's a scientific basis for yoga. It's pretty fascinating.
Anyway, if you take five minutes of breathing. . . then 15 minutes of performing poses. Over time, it could make a difference. It did for me.
I've done quite a bit of studying on yoga and it's pretty amazing. There's a pose for every ailment. . . There's yoga for diabetes. . .yoga for lower back pain. . I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't yoga for snake bite and hangovers. LOL
It worked for me. It's actually a cheap chiropractor.
