The fact that football players already wear gloves doesn't mean a whole lot in terms of COVID-19. It's my understanding that gloves (even the rubber ones) don't really help when it comes to COVID-19 because the virus will stick to the fingers on the gloves. You should wear gloves if you're cleaning and disinfecting or perhaps taking care of someone who is sick but that's pretty much it. It's not necessary or recommended that you wear them outside of your home. In fact, you're better off NOT wearing gloves when going about your day and instead just being diligent about washing your hands thoroughly and often and not touching your face.
