About 15 years ago I worked a house made in the 1920's....

meaning I was able to get on with renovation of a house...it was in the state of NC one of the 1st to have concrete and steel in its skeleton....it was started in the early to mid '20's...finished in 1929. The owners were a BIG time mill owners....weaving, hosiery....Very well off....

This place had a basement with a stand in hearth...pots and all for fox hunting etc....the 1st floor was mostly for entertaining....3rd floor was sleeping quarters....and the attic....The attic had a room sized ceder closet ...inside there were still some wedding dresses and assorted clothes from the era...

The basement housed an on site butchery area...with the hooks you'd put dressed out carcasses...I found some fans that had candles incorporated into them...they were considered early heaters for the era....

In the attic I found things like old Christmas items...candle holders in the shape of holly leaves...a flag from the 1939 NY Worlds Fair.

I by myself was given the job of cleaning up the house...redoing the floors, working back the tiles etc. Another part of the job was emptying out all the years of stuff...The family wanted to get rid of anything that wasn't paper money, or coins...

I got the original 1st edition of Life....and picked through the entire set and was ok'd to keep them....Wrought iron chairs that were in the gardens...I got them...it was the neatest place you could imagine...

They recently tore it down....major demolition had to be done....It was right on the Sedgefield Golf Course...if you have ever heard of the The Wyndam Championship in Greensboro NC...They even had pics from the days it started up with like , Byron Nelson, Sam Snead......a ton of B/W photos.....The house was on like hole # 5-7 on the front side..on of them....The demolition crew made a killing on the wrought iron in the house alone...had a gate to enter the sleeping quarters....the lighting fixtures were worth God knows what....

Just literally too much stuff to even go on with.....I have several pieces from the place....It was such a real pleasure to be able to even be a part of that place and it's history....Some said it was haunted...I used to be in there at all hours....never felt a thing..Mary would never enter the house after sundown....especially during a thunderstorm...
