The trail to the top of Half Dome would be IN the photo, (not visible), center bottom on the photo. The trail, by the way, is NOT as steep and treacherous as this photo would make it appear. Only the final accent near the summit is treacherous... about the last 900'.... the trail from Yosemite valley is 9 miles one way.
That outcropping is VERY near where they had the world famous "Firefall".... which I watched every summer from birth until they discontinued it in 1968... due to congestion, people flooding the valley to watch the firefall.
Let me end this by saying... Yosemite is my favorite place on earth... and if I can say I had a second home it was Yosemite.... I spent a minimum of one month there every year until I was drafted... and after that at least two weeks every year until perhaps the mid-90's. I have hiked every trail in the park, several times. ALL OF THEM. The saddest day of my life was when I applied for employed in Yosemite... 1970, was approved and given a date to report, and was then drafted. Well, maybe not the saddest, but close.
