So I just want to tout this online video game again. Its the largest open world space game ever, taking place in a 1:1 ratio of the milky way galaxy. It takes place in the year 3306 with humanity controlling a portion of the galaxy about 150 light years across containing some 35,000 space stations in around 55,000 star systems. The other 400 billion star systems in the milky way are uninhabited and most unexplored.
Last year some 14,000 players banned together to mount a exploration trip to the other side of the galaxy witch took over four months real time. Here is a really cool video a guy made showing some of the planets, moons and star systems they discovered.
As a side note if your looking for game for the kids that doesn't involve a bunch of violence and gore I'd highly recommend it.
