Your correct in that academies are an issue on this question. In ski racking there are many academies which are private schools-mostly HS-in the mountains where the kids can train daily in the winter. They are boarding schools and they are very expensive. Same with soccer academies. I know little about the academics in these programs in terms of the quality of education should a student not become a professional athlete or become an Olympian.
