And like you it DOES get in the way for me... but not always. It definitely will when it's the 'focus' of the scene... "hey, look at what we did on our computers"... but even that not always. Some scenes require it, I think.. like many of the 'space' movies... Star Trek, Star Wars.... and I think some of the Super Hero movies although I'm not a big fan of those.
If the 'plot' remains the focus I can tolerate CGI to a great extent. It IS noticeable... but then... so are actors without CGI.... I KNOW that guy that just wielded a light saber just came from breakfast at a local diner and has a wallet with the initials "Bad MF".
Movies are and always will be 'play acting'.... so I'm tolerant... but at the same time agree with you.... too much focus on CGI and my ability to suspend disbelief wanes. - JamesJM
