possibly in history, but at least in the history of this investigation.. As I've mentioned to Jimmy, I don't know a whole lot about helicopters, other than a few things I learned building a couple of courses on them.. so, here goes:

I know helicopters have altitude limits for hovering in place - although I just looked it up out of curiosity and up to 10K feet is possible, so shouldn't have been an issue here..

So, my question is, if the pilot was extremely disoriented, could he not have either slowed the thing down to a crawl or even a stop completely to get his bearings? Or due to meeting a mountain face to face or mechanical issues, did he not even have that option? He hit at 186mph.. I'm no pilot, and I'm more of an idiot than anything, but if I was flying a copter, was disoriented and confused, I'd just hover and slowly descend until I figured it out..

On both those vids I posted the guy talks about how it almost impossible for a pilot to hover in the clouds because you can't correct for the drift.
