In the late 50s and throughout the 60s there were several candid videos of surfing in all parts of the world-primarily done by Bruce Brown. Teenagers and other young adults -especially those who lived at or near the beach-would pack school auditoriums and other venues to watch the films. For the most part the Peter Gunn beat- as heard above-was the standard background for the films-especially the actual surfing action. This was at the very beginning of the popularity of the sport-and many attribute the popularity of those early films to Gunn's drumbeat.
