The Olympics, IMHO of course, is the greatest of all sporting events... YES, topping the Super Bowl. My family and I watch from opening ceremonies to closing ceremonies... and that includes all of us from me down thru my youngest grandson.
I can still remember when Gavin, (my 2nd oldest grandson), who was 7 at the time, (I think), stayed up until LONG past his bedtime to watch Phelps go for his 8th Gold Medal. It was the race he won by a finger tip, coming from behind. We thought Gavin had fallen asleep only to see him LEAP off the couch when they announced Phelps had won it.
Ok... considered, (only for a moment), starting a list of "Olympic Moments" my family and I have enjoyed over the years but since you dont care
, and mostly because we're some months away from this year's games, I'll save them for the ensuing months.... except for this one:
My first Olympic memory was watching John Thomas in the Rome Olympics of... was it 1960? LOVED high jump and John Thomas was perhaps my first sports hero. He lost, howver, in the Olympics to a Valerie Brunel? I'm not googling this so dates and spellings may be VERY off. Since that Olympics I have never missed any Olympics games, neither summer nor winter... and won't... until I'm pushing up Daisy's. - JamesJM
