I mean, everything about those WWII planes is beautiful, remarkable... but that 'sound'... nothing else like it.
Used to be several airshows in Ca. and fortunately they nearly always used a flight path that took them over my area. Back in the 60's there were times when one could loos up and it would appear how I would imagine it looked on bombing runs during WWII...
of course today it has dwindled to few. Never the less, if I'm indoors and I hear the roar of a WWII plane flying overhead I'm outside in a flash and watching until it disappears over the horizon. - JamesJM
