Absolutely pathetic performance by the Cardinals offense. Ironic that the Cardinals set a record for the most runs in a first inning in MLB playoff history against the Braves and were almost the recipients of a no-hitter in this NLCS game. The baseball gods obviously have a sense of humor. ONE stinkin' hit for the Cards in the entire game while the Nationals had 10. Cardinals have had a crushing problem in that they are last in the league in runs scored with runners in scoring position. Whenever we have runners on 2nd and/or 3rd base, instead of being excited figuring we're gonna score, we just cringe and roll our eyes because we typically strand them instead. It was that way ALL season long. Darndest thing I've ever seen. You just can't win if you can't get your runners to cross home plate. *sigh*. The pitchers did alright tonight. They only gave up 2 runs. But those 2 runs were enough for the Nationals to win the game.
All we can do is regroup and try again tomorrow. I didn't expect the Cards to win every game in the NLCS, but I didn't expect them to go down in flames in game 1 either. If the next 3 games go like this first one, it's gonna be a painful series to watch.
