My wife and daughter flew home from Colorado on Thursday so I drove them to Denver to catch their plane. 4 hours of driving there then another 4 hours back.

On the way we stopped in Bailey, Colorado for a rest room break. Bailey is not far out of Denver. The parking lot at Wendy's was full of those 'news' trucks, the ones with a Sat. dish on top. We had no idea what was going on... but soon found out...

An 8 year old boy had just been attacked by a mountain lion while he was playing on his backyard trampoline. A nearby kid saw the attack and began screaming... so the Dad ran outside and at the mountain lion scaring the lion away... the boy is in serious but stable condition.

This is going to become frequent, if Calif is any indication. I don't know what the answer is. I love mountain lions, and want them to thrive... but at the same time they are now so populous they are on the outskirts of many cities and towns and growing unafraid of humans... whom they would normally avoid.

As I mentioned here on this forum not long ago my ranch in Coalinga has so many lions roaming the hills now that encounters are no longer rare at all. I no longer allow my grandkids to simply wander without some protection... like an adult with a shotgun.

Good advice... if you're near mountain lion territory, (and these days thats' just about anywhere), and out biking, or running, or simply strolling.... be aware of your surroundings. Don't run if you see one... confront it. - JamesJM
