Life vests are required for each person on board but that is it. Our station Captain (A boater) said that most keep the vests stashed away in the side bulkheads. The ocean CAN send swells that are fully capable of TOTALLY covering the entire boat and sinking it like a rock. If not wearing a vest, boaters have to hope a cooler OR the vests will float away. About 9 years ago, 3 boaters survived 3 and a half days by hanging on to a cooler. If they have nothing out there?????? Uuuuugh.
