It amazes me that they were never really developed.... if they were in the Mediterranean they'd be vacation meccas. Of course, I also love the fact that they were never developed. 
Many many years ago I went with a 'cowboy' cousin of mine on a goat roundup on one of the islands, (I forget which). The introduced goats were destroying the environment so they removed them. It was one of the unpopulated islands and it's one of my best memories.
