witness following the two police officers in a car claimed it was the taller of the two men who shot and killed both officers
Clyde wrote letters to family members claiming that it was Henry Methvin that killed the police officer . which Henry Methvin later admitted to , and also claiming that Bonnie had nothing to do with it
but..........
also , at one point Clyde wrote to the authorities stating that it was Raymond Hamilton who shot the police officers
so................
we'll probably never know what really happened that day
there was a lot of lying and covering up , in and around that gang
and confusion , because Clyde always traveled with different gang members , often times , most eye witnesses , at the time , didn't know who was who , mistaken identity was quite common at the time
at that time , Bonnie and Clyde were more popular then Charles Lindbergh and Babe Ruth , so anyone who came in contact with Bonnie and Clyde became local celebrities themselves , which more time then not , stories got exaggerated , or simply made up
and also , because of Bonnie and Clyde's popularity , witness accounts to the police weren't always accurate either , and often times misleading
as for if Bonnie ever actually killed anyone , most of todays historians believe that Bonnie never killed anyone or even fired a gun , and Branche Barrow claims the same things in her diary that she kept while riding with Bonnie and Clyde
the thing about Bonnie and Clyde , they were on the run for two years , 95% of that time , we have no idea what they were doing
