I agree that Bose are overpriced. And I would add that there ARE cheaper brands that are as good. BUT... there are many brands that are not... even those priced similarly to Bose.
What I'm getting at is: Bose are about as 'sure' of a thing as it gets when it comes to speakers, (not sure about their other products)... the others, while they CAN be as good, even better, are not as sure. I should say though.. .there are other brands I feel as 'sure' as Bose. JBL's are, or were... I am not familiar with their product today.
My last speaker purchase were mains for my home stereo... I researched them then went in to listen to them. The Bose were great, no doubt about it. But... WOW were they expensive. So I compared to some others I had already researched and the pair I eventually bought, Polk's, were every bit as good... "To My Ear"... and much cheaper.
It wasn't an easy decision, however, because...
Polk's were originally known, among musicians, as being cheap knockoffs. Workable, if money was the major issue, but not high quality. Wellllll.... over the years they changed that. But I still had that 'bias' in my mind.
And I should finish with this: My main's for my home stereo were the last major speaker purchase I've made... I am VERY out of touch. Everything I say above may be very dated. - JamesJM
