In Petticoat Junction... it surprised me. I guess it shouldn't have but I was expecting very 'corny' dialog and instead some of the lines were quite good.
Edgar was always one of my favorites and I knew him best from Hopalong Cassidy, which I loved as a kid. That brings up another interesting tidbit... William Boyd.
All I really knew of William Boyd was the Hoppy role even though I had seen him in some small roles in various old movies. One would just not think of Hoppy as a great actor BUT... he was actually Cecile B. DeMille's FIRST choice to play Moses in the movie The Ten Commandments... a role that eventually went to Charlton Heston.
