there will be a WWII aircraft fly-in to one of the "FEW" airshows remaining out west - and my home, whether the show be in the south of the state, east, west, or north... is 'usually' in the flight path.
Just a few year's ago... perhaps 5, I was coming home from Kerman, (few miles NE of me), and saw what I immediately recognized as WWII aircraft flying overhead, in formation. Then behind that first group I saw another group coming, then another, and then another. Upon arriving at home I pulled out a lawn chair and watched as the planes few overhead. I don't remember how many different aircraft flew overhead but there were many.... and among them perhaps my favorite the B-17. I think it must have been like living in England during WWII.
I think the most unique plane I ever saw, IN FLIGHT, was a Japanese Zero. It was at the Edwards Airshow in the high desert in southern Ca. I was told that at that time... this was about 12 years ago, there were only 3 existing Zero's still flying... and not many more even in existence. I have a photo.. one moment:
That's my son standing in front of it. The was one huge THRILL. - JamesJM
