Kind of a sad day in my neighborhood this past weekend
Growing up , we lived on one corner of our block , and Leonard Z lived on the other corner
For years , Leonard was the local Zenith TV / radio dealer in the area , and attached to the side of his house he had a good size shop / showroom , that was always full of all the latest TV.s and radios , well , on top of his shop was this large plastic light up Zenith dealer sign
When I was a kid , Leonard had three kids , one boy and two girls , the boy Craig was two years older then me and we hung out all the time , and the two girls , Lori , was like 5 years older then me , but the youngest girl Lynda was a couple years younger , and right in between both my sisters ages
So for years , and I mean years , ever since I can remember , That Zenith sign sat there on the top of his roof , every time I went around there corner , there it was , and as a kid , I was always fascinated by it , for me , it was as iconic as The Hollywood sign in Los Angeles , or the Empire State Building in New York
Well...........
Leonard is getting pretty old now , turns 93 in October , his wife Arlene passed away last Summer
Even though Leonard is still in pretty good shape for 93 , he'd still walk up to the Post office every day and get his mail
But...............it's time ,
his son now lives in Texas , and both his daughters live up in the Minneapolis area , so the girls are moving him up to the cites to be alot closer to them , in one of those assisted living places , so this past weekend they had his estate sale
and..........................I bought that sign............................LOL
I just couldn't let it go
I have no idea what I'm going to do with a big Zenith sign , but there is just sooooooooooooo many memories that go with that sign , although I'm sure it's a good collectors item as Zenith has been defunct for many years now
Going to be strange not seeing Leonard around , been neighbors my whole life
