well I have other huge concerns... but one of my concerns is that when I was growing up time would drag... I would try to sleep days away to get closer to Christmas, the State Fair, birthday, etc...
For my daughter time is flying. Which means she is easily finding ways to pass the time. That is scary to me because I want her to childhood to last for her own sake. I don't want her to get to age 18 and wonder what happened... much like I am doing now at 50 wondering wth happened, how did 10 years fly by.
I have a hunch that time flies when we grow older because we know what we like and fill our lives with it and we add that to the sense of urgency of everything else we have to do. When I was a kid I'd play until the game was boring and then try to find something else... sometimes that was passing the time with Gun Smoke or the Price is Right. Then I would have to find something else to do. I didn't have 10 all day cartoon channels or youtube where there is an endless supply of kid related stuff. I had A LOT of toys growing up but I have nowhere near as many as my daughter. She has so many toys that a year will pass and she will not have played with most of them. Then another Christmas comes... (She is the only child on my wife's side of the family. We have decided that we will let them buy her gifts because it makes them feel good. We are aware of, and are trying to minimize the issues that come with that)
That said, we play board games and cards and ride bikes... but she doesn't know how to be bored or do nothing... The world is constant stimulation with no effort involved. Everything is spoon fed. I think it's an issue. But I can do something about it and I feel like I am or at least trying to. It's not easy.
