And as usual... it's predicted to be the biggest and best this year. The Moon will set before it begins... the stage is set.
Wish I could be more hopeful... I truly do, but years of frustration have dimmed my optimism... which is NOT to say I won't be out, from dusk to dawn, watching.... I will be.
Truth is, the BEST meteor showers I've ever seen weren't predicted at all... had no 'name'.... they just happened.
Of the recurring meteor showers I can say this: The Perseids have been the most consistent in putting on a show. I remember back a couple of years it almost, not quite, met expectations of 1 per minute.... it was actually more like 1 every 2-3 minutes... but that's pretty good. I'm not sure how big a part 'location' plays in this.... I've never read that it should, at all... BUT... many, many, many times I've read about a meteor shower being quite spectacular while here at my home is was not.
So the night of the 11th and 12th I'll be out reclining, occasionally dozing, on my front lawn trying to keep my grandkids awake for the 'sure to be' spectacular heavenly display... I'll settle for one really good fireball... just one. - JamesJM
