I could be wrong, of course... as highly unlikely as that is.
But I am sensing you have more than a casual interest in WWII... perhaps something akin to my interest in the Civil War era?
I have to plead guilty of being somewhat ignorant of WWII, and WWI for that matter. I think I probably know more than most.... but no where near the knowledge of those who truly study it.
Well I keep a hand in military history generally. Very encompassing. It's an interest. EG. the Napoleonic Wars. I do have some interests that rise above others. Not that interested in WW I, very interested in WW II. Why is WW II a top interest? I suppose it's because when I was growing up WW 2 movies were a big thing and I was emotionally affected by them. So from 10 to 16 I saw The Dirty Dozen, Patton, The Great Escape, The Bridge on the River Kwai (in re-release), The Longest Day (in re-release), Midway, Kelly's Heroes, They Were Expendable (in re-release), Battleground (in re-release and it;s a favorite), Hell is for Heroes, Battle of Britain, In Harm's Way, etc. And of course on tv, we had Vic Morrow and "Combat" back then.
Those films all feature great actors and great writing and high production values and left deep impressions on me as a kid.
Since then I started reading up on it to sort of move past the "mythify it" stage those movies represented into something more thoughtful.
Also over the years since then I watched a film or 2, including the bleakest of them all---Italian films about WW2 (one masterpiece, and it's hard to watch, is Attack and Retreat...there are others).
