Many, very many, years ago Fresno had a local Heavyweight boxer whom locals had high hopes in. (he was a bum but won a few meaningless fights). I went to see him in Fresno.
He was fighting a true 'nobody'... navy guy. I had closer than ringside seats... the ring was in a movie theater and up against the stage... I was sitting front row on the stage... I could rest my legs on the ring ropes.
The bell rang and the Navy guy must have been using staring blocks as fast as he charged across the ring and began pummeling the local hero. For 2 minutes he swung round-house lefts and rights, wild punches, crazy, frantic... everything he had.
At about the 2 minute mark the local hero landed a punch that looked more like a love tap.... not even that actually, and to this day I don't think it connected. Knocked the Navy guy flat and out.
Why the hell am I telling you this? Because Costa Rica today has come out against Switzerland in exactly the same manner. Possibly the most furious start I've ever witnessed. Can Switzerland land a sneaky and undetectable knock out? Hmmm. - JamesJM
