As with all gigs there was good and bad. The good, however, was outstanding. For whatever reason, (most likely sheer luck), we nailed our sound system to perfection. I'd have to say that our 'sound' was better than I've ever heard it in my life.
AND... even after a long hiatus, we 'began' by playing very well. Not great, but solid, good. That didn't last, however... our lead guitar player, and singer, has this tendency to get 'frantic' if he feels the crowd is responding well... seriously, he goes off the deep end. And he did. And once that happens... it's going to be a long night.
Things didn't 'fall apart'... but what 'should' have been failed to occur.
It was a short gig, one of the shortest we have ever played. Maybe no more than 1.5 hours. And yet.... my right arm, (cymbal arm), was aching from about the 3 song into the gig. I had to switch some things up to keep from cramping up. That turned out to be a 'good' thing, however... I played more in control, stayed away from anything semi-fancy, and thus stayed focused and tight. I also got lucky in that I had a good vocal night.... well, as good as it can get for me that is, I'm no vocalist.
And sstrams.... I have to say that the drumstick tinkering on pots and pans and old magazines and the soles of my shoes PAID OFF... really! I was a bit quicker than usual, and my paradiddle's were much cleaner, tighter. Of course, and as I said, I kept it simple... so there's that.
Next gig mid-April, two in May, then another sometime in June. - JamesJM
