Cane Corso, Rottweiler, Doberman, German Shepherds, Chow....ALL have been shown to bite and sometimes kill people. And that's not a comprehensive list, by a long shot.
The idea that pit bulls are the ONLY breed that has the capacity to kill is ridiculous.
Look, there are certain breeds that, due to artificial selection by people, do seem to have a higher chance of attacking people.
BUT, the overriding principle in ALL dog breeds is it's how the owners treat and socialize their dogs.
I would love to do a research project on the dogs that attack people and compare that to the type of owners they have. My bet is you would see how crappy people really are, not the dog.
I would also guess that due to the popularity of pit bulls nowadays, and the fact that many people use "pit bull" as a catch-all term to describe a breed that "looks" like an American Pit Bull Terrier, there would seem to be a higher rate of attacks by pit bulls.
But, like I said, I don't have any factual basis for that last statement.
