That was simply spectacular. LOVED that event.
You're right about the lack of Bobsled coverage... at least on the 'main' channels. Here's how I was set up... my main TV had the main NBC broadcast... over the air network that is. I'm not sure they ever showed any Bobsledding on this channel at all except for replay hilights.. (could be wrong).
Then I had my iPad with another NBC channel and then my bedroom TV with yet another NBC channel... don't ask me to name the 'channels', I haven't got a clue, but one of them did show quite a bit of bobsledding but still not 'most' of the competitors... it was more like the top maybe 5 teams.
Because I had 'other' NBC channels I did not see a whole lot of Figure Skating... but don't get me wrong. I like figure skating... I just grow tired of it quickly.
Now... help me out here.... the guy helping with the Alpine Skiing announcing, (not the main announcer(s), was GREAT... VERY educated in the sport.. lots of great insight.. WHO WAS IT? I somehow managed to ignore or shut-out any mention of his name... HAD to be a former Olympian.
I also like Scott Hamilton for Figure Skating BUT... not the roundtable in the studio discussions, which were FAR too long and boring, IMO, but rather his commentary during the events, from the background.
You may recall on the main board that I've often mentioned that I don't pay much attention to the 'who' in announcing... I hear them but I just don't pay much attention to who they are. Same with the Olympics... so I'm sorry to say that I can't name names but there were a few of the 'color' announcers I liked quite a bit... the 'main' announcers no, can't think of one I thought was all that good. Although I think Scott Hamilton would be considered a 'main' announcer.
Over the years I've heard many famous sports announcers say the real gift to great announcing is knowing when to 'shut up' and allow the athletes and the event itself to tell the story. They didn't do that on NBC... except, again, for Scott.. who seldom interrupted the performance with commentary. - JamesJM
