Without doubt there are some events that I personally enjoy more than the others... I do, however, appreciate the hard work and sacrifices all the athletes have made irrespective of their specific event.
I understand that we're all different... not just across the nation, the world, but in my own household. My granddaughter wants Figure Skating on 24/7.
Things must be juggled and I can well imagine the logistic nightmare it must be to fit it all in... but that said, this effort seems very weak to me and in fact, the weakest I've ever seen.
It's almost as if they admitted to themselves that they weren't up to the task and so decided to just 'make do'.
Also.. in years past, some of the better announcers, (and there still are several of them), made you feel like you were there... part of it, not merely a 'viewer' from afar but at the event... they trusted that your eyes told the story.
The 'personal' segments... I miss those as well, but I'm not fond of overly dramatic and concocted ones. I honestly believe the athletes, others, tell their stories better themselves than the 'color' added by the media. I like, love, highly emotional responses, interviews, reactions... but I am distracted by contrived efforts to elicit those emotions.
I think, just an opinion, that if most of the announcers would simply realize that for the Olympics they should not set as their primary function being an 'entertainer'... one can be entertaining without putting on the costume of entertainment. - JamesJM
