Something about not only the athletes but also the people in the stands. You come to realize at our core we are alike in so many ways that you wonder why and how there can be so much acrimony on this earth. We attended the opening ceremonies in Vancover in 88. Sitting directly behind us was a large Russian contingent all warm in mink coats and caps. When the jets flew over just as the ceremony began they all yelled and clapped just as we did. Later that week we had dinner at a restaurant that was a gathering for many of the sledding coaches. We sat with coaches from Norway, Finland and yes Russia. Lots of friendly talk about Reagan but ever so nice and cordial. I thought then as I do now that we really are one.
