That bugged me as well...

the gliding distance at low elevation. I think if one is interested in aviation that would be a sticking point ALTHOUGH... because of way 'time' was manipulated in the film one could just say it was actually simply portrayed in slow motion.

Not sure what the gliding ratio was on those old war planes... I'll have to look into the. I believe most general aviation aircraft today are 6 to 1, something like that.... sounds like a lot but if you've flown, (killing power is practiced in training), it's actually falling out of the sky pretty darned rapidly... enough to control, but quick. - JamesJM
