I purchased Marantz as I like the sound. For sure need to update your connectivity. I also bought the Marantz because I like the slim chassis as many HT receivers are mammoth in size. Dennon is obviously very good too with sound.
The big difference for me was 2 things:
Upgraded center speaker......biggest thing you can do as 95% of your sound comes through it. I rarely heard dialogue or it was washed out by music before. I have it in a cool cabinet. Slides shut to hide when not in use.
Subwoofer.....I got a wireless sub. My GF didn't like the sub so prominent in room. Wireless - I can hide it anywhere or keep it in my office next door and pull out for movies.
SO Marantz receiver, Polk Center and Fronts (these should always match) and Klipsch wireless sub. I have to mount my TV as I got a new TV.....just need the time.
