I'm not a fan of Netflix. My soon to be brother-in-law has a deal where he can add family members and added us. I never watch it because there is rarely anything on it. Take this test: look up 10 things you really want to watch and see if you can find half of them. Hulu is worse. My fiancee cancelled her subscription.

I also have amazon prime which I use for free shipping, but they are limited.

Personally, I like the bundle approach and you could do the same with basic package that would add ESPN for example, at a lower rate than expanded or premium channels like HBO. I used u verse recently and now back with DirecTV since I moved. Both companies will negotiate a la cart packages and bundles.
For the convenience of $30-40 bucks a month I am ok with using big companies. I pay around $250 for 2 phones lines, highest internet speed and expanded channels including HBO, Showtime and Sunday Ticket.
