bring up 'aviation' around me.
Fact is: Those early days of aviation... the wars yes but also everything aviation beyond just wars, aviation is one of the most romantic era's in human history IMHO. And actually not just the 'early' years, although they appeal to me the most.
There is a ride in California Adventure, (theme park owned by Disney and right next to Disneyland, Anaheim), that was called "California Adventure".. It was called "Soarin' Over California" but they have changed the theme, not sure what it's called today, I believe it now features the 'world' rather than just Calif.)... best ride I've ever been on in my life... and as you stand in line you walk past all these large photos of aviation pioneers... famous ones, like Lindbergh, Earhart, Yeager, but MANY lesser known pilots as well.. who did amazing things. It's a 'wonderland' for me.
This last weekend, I posted this, I was on my ranch listening to the game. While there my grandson called out, "Hey Pop, look at that".. he was pointing at the sky. I looked up and there were 5 planes flying in 'semi' formation... two of them bi-wings, all classics. They were a bit too distant for me to make out exactly what type of planes they were... but it didn't matter.. it was a glory to behold. Obviously they were headed to some airshow somewhere. I watched them from horizon to horizon, (not that far as I was down in a canyon at the time), and couldn't take my eyes off them. Spellbound, you'd call.
Yesterday.. and this is almost a weekly event, the fighter jets out of Lemoore Naval Air Station were once again right over the top of my house dog fighting... my windows were rattling, and at the first sound of them overhead I sprang from my computer and ran outside... grabbed a lawn chair, and watched them until they returned to base. I do it every time they are overhead. It never gets old... it never fails to fascinate me. - JamesJM
