He wasn't on fire, this morning. He was playing games on my iPad. When I asked him about the game he shrugged, no big deal. Then he had to get ready, putting on his uniform, (no pads yet). His attitude remained the same - "no big deal... gotta finish this video game".
But THEN... I said the magic words. "You know, Elijah, you get to run through the banner today". That did it. He's frothing at the mouth.
Mighty Mites breaking that banner for the first time is one of the greatest moments in sports. And amazing. I've never figured out how they can create one giant pile of 35 kids. 7 year olds have enough mass to break a sheet of paper, at full speed, but barely. From full speed to zero mph in a flash... then the chain reaction... which includes, btw, the 7 year old cheerleaders holding the banner.
Been watching this tradition for 11 years now? It's the defining moment for me... "Football Season has begun". - JamesJM
