And related: I have a theory that 'most' people never visit very close sites but instead travel 'away'... and I mean 'noted' places they live close to that other's travel far to see. I even did that once. I lived in Heidelberg Germany over a year, traveled all over Europe.... and one week before I came home realized I had never visited the Heidelberg Castle.. which is huge, you can't miss it.
While stationed at Spangdahlem from 82 to 84 my buddies and I traveled frequently. One place we went was Heidelberg, I think it was New Years either 83 or 84. We toured the Heidelberg castle....very cool, that is the thing with other countries like Germany....the history is rich and dates back to the 900's.
Not trying to rub it in Jimmy, I have lived in Georgia since December 1994...23rd year. Just within hte last 5 to 10 years I have visited Stone MOuntain Georgia once and Savannah GA about 5 times. It took me about 18 years before I visited Savannah. So you're right we tend not to vacation/explore locally.
