Charles Rowan had more of them than any human being that ever lived. Charles came from somewhere in Oklahoma... told me he used to run moonshine with James Garner when they were teens... (no idea if that was true).

when Charles told a story every other sentence was an old adage. And it worked, to perfection. IMHO Charles was a genius.

Charles is still with us, btw. I run into him a couple of times a year and he still rattles those old adages off as eloquently as ever.

One of my favorite from Charles was: Oh, sorry, can't put it on this board.

I do have a another I can quote... came from Ernie, Portuguese immigrant, who once told a group of us: " I came to this country with $100 in my pocket. Started farming. And as soon as I get that $100 back I'm outta here". - JamesJM
