In our Division, not sure about the others, JV's have no playoffs, or championship... they simply play games. Of course fans and parents keep track of the records but there is no formal recognition of champions. JV's, in our division, truly are a feeder system for the Varsity. - JamesJM
correct, JV is to prep the kids for the next level of play, no division titles, nor playoffs....
my son was starting catching for varsity baseball his freshmen year (also pitched) he also played varsity water polo as a freshmen.
My main concern of playing up was if he was mentally ready to play with older kids... it worked out very well. I remember chatting with him after his 1st scrimmage as a freshmen "Dad, their first baseman had a beard"
other than foul tips to the face mask in back-to-back games that caused a concussion, it's been a very positive experience for him. In 2 season of varsity HS ball he's experienced CCS playoff games in each of his 1st 2 seasons as a starter........ Was named all league 2nd team for baseball as a sophomore and all league offensive player in water polo as a sophomore.
his baseball coach is Phil Lansford (Carney Lansford's brother) and has been a very good game day coach has been with the HS for 12 years and developed a very solid program. they won league last year for the 1st time in 16 years............ my son did struggle at the plate as a freshmen, ........ his 1st AB as a freshmen he tripled, then went 0 for his next 5 games ,thus they DH'd for him mid season, but the coaches stuck with him and kept the confidence levels up at the plate
both my daughters also swam varsity as freshmen and middle daughter also played varsity water polo with no regrets.
