Don't get me wrong, I'm pleased. More in a second.
No, no amplification.... but for me it's probably different. Flat land... ZERO interference between me and the towers. I bought another today... this one was going deep into the bowels of my home so I got the best rated one I could find for 'range'... plugged it in and 100% ok. I think the cheapo $19 one would probably work fine for me. I'll know Friday.. I'm buying one for my cousin, (also an HDTV, she can't afford one... sssshh, it's a surprise).
Now the 'spoke too early' thing. I have 99 channels... but it's not a lot different than DirecTV... MOST of them I'll never watch. MOST of them are Spanish channels. So those are out, my Spanish today is not good, and EXCEPT when the World Cup Soccer tournament comes around). There are about 10 channels I care about. Since I'm new to this, and am not familiar with the channel offerings, maybe I'll be adding a few more to my 'favorites' list in the coming days... I don't know.
The good news.. this is no different, actually, and FOR ME, than DirecTV. There were maybe 10 channels I watched on DirecTV out of? 220 or so?
NONE of the above, or the original post I made starting this thread, is a RECOMMENDATION. I can say with GREAT confidence that I watch less TV than anyone on this board... my 'needs' are NO WHERE NEAR as great. So I cannot, and am not, recommending this break from 'cable' or 'satellite'.
ALSO... I have not discarded 'tech'... I have an AppleTV.... on it I use both NetFlix and Hulu... (neither do I like much but ehhh, sometimes they come in handy)... I use it 90% of the time for movies I have saved on my computer. Also for family photos, family videos... sometimes the weather, news, etc. So I'm NOT a mountain man in Alaska, or the Yukon, casting aside all things 'tech'... far from it. - JamesJM
