That is really insightful....when I see babies and I don't know (which I normally don't) I will ask boy or girl. It is embarassing to assume and be wrong....so I go with the idiot approach.
Similar in terms of embarrassment....a friend of mine (I was with him at the time) asked a lady at the store when she was due. The lady was furious and walked away so it is clear that she wasn't pregnant, just carried her weight differently. I was EXTREMELY embarrasing so I learned from that. I still thank him to this day for that lesson.
