Only recall doing so once in a song, however... and not with my band. I was practicing in my garage and playing along to Acoustic Alchemy... they do a song called Mr. Chow which has a gong in it.

BTW... I love Acoustic Alchemy, and all time favorite band... and when practicing I play many of their tunes... Mr. Chow I especially like practicing to because it's 'slow', easy to get down, and it features, as do nearly all their songs, something VERY unique...

The bass drum is played on the 2 and 4 beat... if that doesn't explain well think of it this way... it's the exact opposite of almost every pop, rock, metal, popular music song you've ever heard in your life.

If you're very curious, here's a video of Mr. Chow. The drummer will begin playing the bass on the 2 and 4 beat... then in the bridge he will switch to the 1 and 3... you should hear what I'm talking about immediately.

99% chance you will detest the song, laughing smiley , but that's not why I'm including it... strictly bass drum uniqueness example.
