Kiss From A Rose, by Seal. I hate that song... but allow me to explain:
NO WAY do I think it's a 'bad' song... actually.... as far as 'production'... it's astounding to me. I can't imagine the work that went into recording that song. Seal is magnificent.
The melody doesn't work for me.. hence the lyrics fall flat for me, (like you mention). The entire effort is wasted on me, (which is a damn shame and MY fault), all because the melody just sucks for me. - JamesJM
