don't know that the majority of neck operations are done through the front now, jimmy.. Most of the people who know me have been surprised to see the scar in the front.. But, its much less invasive and much faster recovery time.. I think if you have more than 3 discs done they might have to go through the back, but they try not to since they have to cut muscles and whatnot.. Through the front they just shove everything to the side, but that invites several risks such as loss of vocal cords and/or inability to swallow correctly from then on..

My biggest gripe was the 3" inch scar I have - although I tell everyone its half a Columbian Necktie and I escaped..
