Ok, that's an outright lie - I was born in Japan..
But, my hometown has had two major tornadoes since we moved here in '64..The first one I was too young to remember.. the second happened in '79 and flattened the town with 49 dead.. I remember that tornado VERY well and watched it ravage the town.. I was, in reality, about a mile from he tornado, but it looks like it was a block away - probably because the base was a half mile wide.. We thought it was an F5, but I think it was eventually classified as an F4..
I shot about 20 rolls of photos for the local newspaper, where I worked, of the damage.. To this day, I hate myself for not shooting pics of the tornado itself - I had a fully loaded 35mm on the dining room table and also had an "action cam" from one of the local TV stations, as well.. I was just SO blown away by what was happening, and it happened so fast, that I didn't grab the cameras.. I will be disappointed in myself over that until the day I die..
We lived 3 houses from he street that you had to take to get to the hospital. The thing I will always remember the most, was standing int he from yard, about 5 minutes after the storm had passed, and seeing one pickup truck full of bloody people after another going down that street to the hospital.. There had to be 100 pickup trucks..
Here's a pic someone else shot of our tornado..
Friendship is like peeing your pants.. Everybody can see it, but only you can feel the warmth..
