That was right by a hotel I was in. I don't recall the name of the storm but it was nasty and at one point I know it was a 4. The other one was many years prior and it may not have been a cat4 but it was, from memory, as bad as the one that pushed the boat onto the beach.
As it moved away we waded across the road to a liquor store in water that was halfway to our knees. Somewhere back home there are pics I took from the room several stories up, many of the trees in the parking lot were flattened. A ton of sand was washed away from the beach, it was the first time I had ever seen anything like it.
I like living in FL but wouldn't live on the other coast for a variety of reasons and hurricanes are one of them. Same with the Carolinas, that coast is beautiful and Hilton Head is a fantastic place to visit, but hurricanes cause too much grief.
Not to turn this into a disaster thread but..........
I have also been in a mild earthquake. Back home in Cleveland in the mid 80's. Nothing huge but you could certainly feel it and it's a creepy odd feeling.
I was also in that massive blackout that happened about 15 years ago where 50 million people lost power. It's the second largest blackout ever but our power was only down for about half a day while some friends we knew were out for a couple of days.
Anyone been in a tornado? LOL.
