during massive storms, I can tell you that its a pretty hopeless feeling cuz there's nowhere to run or hide and the water's already to rough to leave to be helicoptered out.. Turneffe Island in Belize, where we've been going the last few years, just went through that a few months ago.. They were able to evacuate the guests to the mainland, but had to keep at least two employees on the island to actually protect the island from thieves and.. yes.. pirates.. The two people they left were good friends of ours, so not only did they have to survive the storm, they had to survive whoever decided to invade - luckily none did..
In 2006 we were on Rangiroa, which is an atoll (we'll just say island) in the Tahiti chain.. its the lip of a volcano that sunk into the ocean, so only a circular strip of land is still above sea level about 100 yards wide from lagoon to open ocean.. the circle is so large you cannot see the other side.. 6 feet above sea level at its highest point.. While we were there, there was a massive earthquake somewhere and we were in a tsunami warning for at least a day.. absolutely nowhere to go there - no two story structures and 6 feet above sea level... yikes.. we got lucky on that one..
Can you tell my caffeine has kicked in?
Friendship is like peeing your pants.. Everybody can see it, but only you can feel the warmth..
