the feeling that comes over me when I go to airshows and see all the vintage planes. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE all the new planes, but those WWII aircraft just amaze me.
Not so long ago I took my entire family to an airshow and the boys, (my grandsons), and I got to go inside a couple B-17's, sit in some P-51's, Corsairs, P 40's, and many, many more. One of the best days of my life. I remember my grandson's favorite part was sitting in the tail gunner position in the B-17... just amazingly 'cramped'... even for my grandkids.
I think I told you before that I got to take a ride in a B-17 some years ago... several years ago now that I think about it. It was a short flight but I'll never forget it.
I think what really gets my 'fantasy' mode going, when it comes to aircraft, are the Ford Tri-Motors.. passenger planes. There are a few, very few, still flying... and they have been restored immaculately. Every time I get into one of them I leave the present and return to the 30's... flying across the USA and watching the 'pristine' countryside of the 30's slowly pass underneath.
