the gaming sounds being pre-recorded and easily shut off. Gaming sounds and controlling them were probably a bad example for me to wrongly compare.
Disabling announcers audio for say an NFL game I'm sure is controlled by or contract controlled by the networks and the NFL working HOOVE in HOOVE.
For say DTV to give an option for users to disable it probably will never happen.
I have this same rant for NASCAR announcers, baseball announcers and just about every sport I watch. I don't need, want or care about whatever they have to say when I have my own two eyes, ears (although impaired LOL) so I don't need some blabber mouth telling me who has the ball, how far he ran and how many yards the team now needs to make a first down when all that info is up on screen before they say it in most cases.
If I had my needs met it would be like a Hardcore setting in my games, no huds, no mini maps, no shot counts, no lap counters, nothing, just me immersed in my enjoyment.
I think back to the game years and years ago, forgot the year and teams when there was no announcers to speak of just someone rarely saying not very much.
Most enjoyable NFL game I've every watched, besides the RAMS winning the SB that is
.
Anywho, each monkey to their own rope so I'll continue to hope above hope.
Thanks for the input.

..and I'm not a gamer, so this is all speculation: With video games, all the sounds ares, of course pre-recorded and programmed, so with settings you can literally shut off any type of sound programmed into the game.. Color commentary is probably grouped and can be shut off, for example.. I'm guessing with a live game you'd have to have several sets of announcers that you could choose between - from bare bones guys to color commentators who jabber on like a busted chainsaw and won't shut up..
I guess I'm lucky in that I'm able to mentally tune most of the crap out.. I will, on occasion tho, correct an announcer who hasn't done his homework or misspeaks.. I will usually end those corrections with an insulting and profanity laced name that I call whoever originally said it.. So, 1 point for the TV viewers...
Maybe someday they'll have those options for ya, 23.. until then, all we got is a volume knob.. Maybe tune down the TV and turn a radio feed on to supply the volume?
